TOUCHSTONE 3



Unit 1.  
I’m a patient person.  (adjective + noun)
I wait patiently in lines. (verb + adverb)
My friend is extremely generous.(adverb + adjective/adverb)
* She is always doing things for other people. (Describing individual habits)

Unit 2.
I have had a lot of fun on my vacation. (present perfect)
I went rafting last May. (past simple: definite time!)
* I have heard surfing is good. (Keeping the conversation going)
I have never tried it. (present perfect)

Unit 3.
Mongolia is the greatest place to go. (superlative adjectives: +est)
It’s the best country in the world. (superlative adjectives: irregular)
UB is the most interesting city in Mongolia. (superlative adjectives: most+)

Unit 4.
My parents want me to study English.  (V+O+to+V)
They help me study in the best university. (V+O+V)
I used to go to the training centers. (Past Simple: used +to+V)
I would take international exams. (Past Simple: would+V)
* I think there’s a lot of possibility to study English. (Giving opinions)

Unit 5.
-          Too much / too many; a few / a little
I do enough homework. (+noun)
I still can’t speak fluent enough. (adjective+)
Maybe I don’t listen enough.  (verb+)

Unit 6.
I will study English very well.  (future: decision)
I am going to learn new vocabulary. (future: prediction/fact)
I am taking English next Monday. (future: fixed plan)
I have my English class next week. (future: schedule)

Unit 7.
My friend is a good student who always helps others. (Subject relative clause)
My friend is someone (who) I can trust. (Object relative clause)
We grew up in the same town. (Phrasal verbs !)
* She is a bit more easygoing than me. (Softening comments)
* I guess that’s OK in a way. (Softening comments)

Unit 8.
I wish I had more free time.
If I had more free time I would go surfing.  (Second conditional)
If I had the chance I would do something more exciting with my life. (Second conditional)
* That would be awesome. (Commenting on a possibility or a suggestion)
* If I were you I would study English every day. (Giving advice)

Unit 9.
I know what I should  do to study English. (Indirect question: question within statement)
* On the other hand, I might find some interesting people to speak English. (Giving different opinions )
- Phrasal verbs (turn on / turn off;   go away/throw away)

Unit 10.
I have been spending a lot of time on the Internet. (present perfect continuous)
I have already had my own blog. (present perfect )
I was thinking  if I had cheep Internet connection I could spend some time in chat rooms to talk about interesting stuff in English.

Unit 11.
My friend must be a genius. (modals for speculating / 100%)  =  I bet she works pretty hard. (100%)
She can’t miss her classes. = It’s not possible she can’t go to school.  (100%)
She could be one of your friends. =  It’s possible you are a friend of hers  (50-60%)
We might be feeling sad when we graduate from our university. = Maybe we are feeling sad.  (20-30%)

Unit 12.
I am interested in movies.
I think movies are very interesting.
I saw a really exciting movie yesterday.
I was not disappointed to see that movie with English subtitles.

This movie was given to me by my friend.  (by + Agent)
Many good reviews were written about this movie.  (to be + PII)
